We’re great. You always teach us fascinating things when you stop by the Blend. So today, let’s talk about marketing tech trends and what trends small businesses should be watching for this year.

Jesse (00:23):

There’s so many, and I’m going to be shameless up front and say, you know, we’ve got a whole post on this back on our website. So you’re gonna want to check that out. But there’s a couple of things that I think are really important. One of the first things is, is that Google just announced within the last couple of weeks that they’ve got this thing called the speed update coming this summer. And what that means is that for mobile sites in particular, if you don’t meet certain page speed parameters, you will start to see your ranking start to fall. So that’s one of the biggest things, they were explicit about it. We’ve got six or seven months, however it is, till July to really work on that. That’s one really big thing. Uanother thing that’s coming down the pipeline is the prevalence of what’s called featured snippets. So if you ever ask a question to Google and you see like a table at the top or an excerpt from a website, right? Those are things that can be programmatically,ubuilt into your website at least to increase the probability that you show up in what’s called position zero. And so that’s something that you, we’ve seen, you know, double digit growth year over year in terms of those showing up in results. And so that’s something that I think is going to continue to grow. Related to that, I don’t know about you guys. I have an Alexa. I love Alexa. That industry has also doubled in the last year. And so more and more people are getting comfortable with these smart speakers and it’s only a matter of time before,uand, and that, that by the way, also pulls content from things like these smart snippets that Google uses in position zero. Uh,and so I think that’s something else we need to start thinking about. How do you optimize not just for text search, but voice search as well as something that I think is going to be coming up,ucoming up this year. Cybersecurity, which we’ll talk about more next month, is huge. Uyou know, it’s one of those things, it’s big and getting bigger, especially as more devices come online and you’re able to access different things from different machines. Uand then finally, content curation. Content’s been king for all for a long time. But as you guys may or may not have heard, you know, all this,usort of Russia stuff with, you know, Google and Facebook echo chambers… They’re coming under a lot of fire. They’re changing up their algorithms to deprioritize some kinds of content or reprioritize other kinds of content. And so I think it’s really important to start thinking about not only the quality of the content, but how that content fits within the context of what they actually want to be showing.
