Super homepages have common characteristics. This checklist represents some of the most common elements that should be on a homepage, though your use case may vary. Use it to make sure that neither you - nor we - are missing any important information.

Content

A good homepage is like a welcoming foyer for a house. It should invite people into your website, then direct them to the appropriate 'next room' (page) appropriate for their journey.

Content on this page should be short, helpful, and enticing - encouraging a visitor to click into the appropriate area of interest.

The homepage is not designed to be content heavy or share all the information about your business or offering. Pages deeper in the website should do that.

Calls to Action

Since your homepage is about getting people into the next step of their journey, there should be calls to action and 'learn more' opportunities peppered throughout the page.

Reviews/Testimonials

Your homepage should include reviews, testimonials, or links to case studies, where people can see 'proof' of the quality of your work.

Links to Content Groups

As your website grows, you'll have "groups" of content, where visitors can access similar types of content on one "index" page.

An example of this is a blog, where you may have many articles and a visitor can get to any single article or the collection of articles. Other examples include things like 'events,' 'services,' 'product categories,' etc.

Media

Your homepage is/should be one of the most visual pages on your website. The pictures, images, and icons should 'set the mood' for your site, while driving customers deeper into the appropriate experience.

Remember, customers skim, they don't read, so this page should be content light and lean on images to catch attention & move people through your process.
